Hostess Work in China
China is a country that never ceases to amaze. Massive cities bustling like anthills, where life thrives both day and night, will captivate your imagination. The energy of these metropolises never fades, even after sunset. With endless entertainment options and high business activity, China is attractive to people with diverse interests — and even more so for young women seeking not only adventure and travel but also a solid income.
Key Requirements and Responsibilities of Hostesses in Chinese Clubs
Hostess work in China is available in two main formats: large nightclubs and KTV (karaoke bars). Contracts are flexible and suitable for both experienced candidates and newcomers. Language knowledge is not required, and both clubs and KTVs are busy year-round without seasonal downtimes.
In Chinese clubs, it’s customary for guests to give hostesses not only drinks but also flowers, making the work more elegant and visually appealing. Hostesses earn a commission on the sale of flowers — this is known as the “flower-based consumption” system. If a guest does not give flowers, the hostess can change tables. In many clubs, girls can work multiple tables at once.
KTV operates differently: girls are paid for the time spent with guests in private karaoke rooms, which is tracked by the hour (called “choices”). It’s not about how many drinks are sold, but how long you keep the guest engaged. Girls sing, dance, chat, eat, and have fun with guests. No special singing skills are required — the key is to be cheerful and sociable.
Requirements:
- Pleasant and approachable appearance
- Age: 18 to 32 years
- Height: 165 cm minimum
- Basic English is a plus; communication with clients can be supported through WeChat’s built-in translator
Working Conditions for Hostesses in Beijing Clubs
In Beijing, hostess work takes place in lively nightclubs with active consumption. Girls earn commissions from drinks sold. Contracts last a minimum of 4 months. The employer covers the cost of the visa and a one-way flight; the girl initially pays for the visa herself, but it is reimbursed upon arrival in China.
Chinese nightclubs are known for large dance floors, loud music, DJs, performers, and packed crowds. Clubs typically employ 30–50 hostesses. Salary is paid monthly, and commissions are paid every 10 days. The work schedule is from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with one day off per week. The contract duration can range from 4 to 12 months. Free accommodation near the club is provided.
Clubs welcome international clientele, including locals, Europeans, Russians, Turks, and Arabs — making the experience more diverse and socially rich. There are no curfews or check-in/check-out requirements.
After arriving in China, hostesses go to the local police station with club staff to submit their passport and receive a temporary residence card.
Special note on Hong Kong contracts:
Hostesses are expected to also go on daytime outings with regular clients to build rapport. They earn extra commissions on reserved tables. These clients then return to the club at night.
In Chinese clubs, drinking alcohol is typically required. Avoiding it (e.g., by pouring drinks out) is nearly impossible. Themed parties occur a few times a month, where hostesses dress up and participate in events — often with a cultural theme.
Hostess Salaries in Chinese Clubs
Girls working active consumption shifts earn a fixed salary of 9,000 yuan (approx. $1,265 USD). Early on, club staff help introduce new girls to clients, but eventually, the hostess must initiate guest interactions herself. A large portion of income comes from tips, which are kept in full by the hostess. Average monthly income ranges between $1,800–$2,800 USD.
Working in KTV in China
KTV hostess jobs have some unique features: Contracts last 6 months. Who leave early must reimburse flight, housing, and visa costs
KTVs are structured like mini-hotels with many private karaoke rooms.Hostesses earn per hour spent with guests and keep 100% of tips. Work hours: 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM (can leave earlier if no guests are present). Drinking alcohol is not mandatory
Girls are not required to initiate interaction — guests invite them. Important: Some KTV venues operate unofficially and may offer unethical terms. Prestige Model Agency does not cooperate with such places.
Flights and Visas
To work legally in China, a work visa is mandatory — this ensures your safety and protects you during inspections. Avoid working on tourist or business visas, as this can result in legal consequences including detention and jail time.
The agency arranges and covers the cost of work visa processing (3–5 weeks) and helps collect the necessary documents. If your plans change after starting the visa application process, you must reimburse the employer for incurred expenses.
Girls are provided with free housing in apartments close to the club. If the contract is 4 months: a one-way ticket is reimbursed
If the contract is 1 year or longer: round-trip tickets are reimbursed. Girls also receive a paid 15–20 day vacation during the contract, including a free flight to their home country or another warm destination. Airport pickup is provided
Helpful Tips
To enter China, you must present a negative PCR or antigen COVID-19 test, taken no more than 48 hours before arrival. The result must be uploaded via WeChat or the online form to Chinese customs. After submission, you’ll receive a QR code required for entry.
